It’s going to be a busy year for retired Supercars champion and Gold Coast real estate agent James Courtney.

Courtney, who transitioned into real estate last year following a decorated motorsports career, is stepping things up a gear, becoming the newest face at luxury agency Kollosche.

In a strategic and complementary move, James confirmed this week he will return to the professional racing circuit in 2026, driving in key endurance events for the factory General Motors-backed Team 18.

Simultaneously, James will take up position in front of the camera as a lead member of Supercars’ new-look commentary team following a controversial shake-up of the existing line-up. The racing action and Courtney’s first gig kicks off next weekend with the Sydney 500.

While Courtney admits racing is his passion, he said he was fully committed to building his real estate career and viewed his return to racing a way to accelerate that path. "The national exposure and corporate networks that accompany motorsports provide tangible benefits,” Courtney said.

“Being part of the telecast team places you in front of people. That visibility and connection will help in my career as an agent. “Couple this with some savvy digital marketing and you can reach an audience of hundreds of thousands with just one post.

I have literally sold houses off an Instagram post.” Courtney said his decision to join Kollosche came down to alignment in performance and culture, as well as his longstanding relationship with Kollosche Managing Partner and fellow racing driver Shane Smollen. “Managing Director Michael Kollosche has built an elite and highly respected brand,” Courtney said.

“That coupled with my connection to Shane through racing made it seem like a natural fit.” Smollen said Courtney’s appointment reflected the increasing value of profile, trust and networks in the luxury real estate sector. “James has built relationships at the highest level of Australian sport and business over a long period of time,” Smollen said.

“What stands out is how seriously he has approached real estate. He is committed to his career, and brings a calm professionalism that clients respond to.” Courtney said another advantage of his involvement in motorsports was the connection to high-net-worth individuals who are active in property markets across Queensland.

“You meet CEOs, business leaders, people with significant portfolios,” he said. “Many of them are looking for lifestyle properties on the Gold Coast and that’s where I can help.

” At Kollosche, Courtney is focused on luxury residential sales across the Gold Coast with a specific focus on Hope Island’s elite enclaves of Sanctuary Cove and Hope Island Resort, where he has been based for more than 20 years.
