Agency HQ has announced its third office in as many weeks, as Wyndham-based operator James Ferris realigns his business with the national platform, reflecting a broader shift underway across Australia’s independent real estate sector.
The move follows a growing pattern among experienced operators who are reassessing traditional franchise structures in favour of models that offer operational support without sacrificing autonomy.
For many, the decision is less about branding and more about control, scalability and long-term sustainability.
Ferris, who has operated independently after nearly two decades inside established agency environments, said the transition was driven by practical business considerations rather than sentiment.
After launching his own office to gain greater flexibility over systems, client experience and internal culture, aligning with Agency HQ provided access to infrastructure while retaining ownership of his business direction.
This latest return marks the third office site to rejoin Agency HQ in 2026, reinforcing a trend Agency HQ CEO Mark Morrison is tracking closely, established principals returning to flexible platforms after experimenting with fully standalone or legacy franchise models.
Across the industry, operators are increasingly prioritising:
• Ownership over branding
• Control over data and process
• Leaner cost structures
• Customisable support rather than rigid frameworks
Agency HQ’s structure allows offices to retain their independent identity while accessing compliance, marketing systems, operational resources and national support, a model gaining traction as market conditions tighten and margins come under pressure.
Mr Morrison said the momentum across the network was deliberate and far from finished.
“We’re seeing strong momentum right across the country, and there’s more to come before Easter,” he said. “It’s an exciting time for the network. We’ve got some exceptional operators coming on board and some very strong proptech announcements on the way, technology that’s designed to drive real change for our people and hasn’t been seen in this way in the industry before.”
Ferris’ business spans residential and commercial property, with auction capability forming part of his service offering. His office continues to operate locally in Wyndham, supported by an internal team while leveraging Agency HQ’s backend systems.
Industry observers note that these movements are rarely isolated decisions. They reflect changing expectations from principals who now view platforms as infrastructure partners rather than brand owners.
Agency HQ recently took out Major Boutique Network of the Year at the 2026 Real Estate Today Awards.
