Harcourts Victoria and the Harcourts Foundation have joined forces with The Women’s Justice League (WJL), awarding a significant grant to help survivors of domestic violence access vital legal representation.

WJL’s mission is as clear as it is critical: ensuring financial hardship never stands in the way of justice. They work tirelessly to reduce the financial burden of legal proceedings, provide top-tier representation, and educate survivors to navigate the legal system with confidence.

Kristina Snowball, CEO of WJL, says the demand for their services is overwhelming but essential.

"When survivors reach out to us, our goal is simple: we want to say yes to everyone who meets our criteria," says Snowball. "We are currently fielding between 5 and 20 calls a week for help. This grant brings us closer to our goal of saying 'no' to no one and offering some form of funding for every person who needs us."

“Thank you Harcourts, so much for the grant. It was so much appreciated. We can’t do what we do without help from the likes of groups like you.”

The partnership highlights a shared commitment to community support and tangible action. WJL serves as a crucial bridge between crisis and justice, helping survivors move from merely surviving to truly thriving by arming them with the resources to fight back in a system that can often feel stacked against them.

"We are incredibly proud to support The Women’s Justice League in their vital work," says Pauline Smith, Head of the Harcourts Foundation. "At Harcourts, we believe in meaningful contributions that create real change.

Helping WJL provide legal support to survivors of domestic violence aligns perfectly with our values of community and care."

Beyond individual legal aid, WJL advocates for legislative reform—pushing for laws that better recognise issues like coercive control—and collaborates with partners to offer comprehensive support, including housing and counselling referrals.

"This isn't just about funding; it's about standing with survivors and letting them know they aren't fighting alone," says Sharon Kupsch, Harcourts Foundation Ambassador for Victoria.

Through initiatives like these, the Harcourts Foundation strives to make a tangible difference. By supporting grassroots organisations such as WJL, the Foundation ensures that funding reaches the communities and individuals who need it most. This commitment goes beyond financial contributions—it’s about fostering hope, empowering change, and standing in solidarity with those who deserve a brighter, safer future.

"It’s a privilege to see this grant go towards such a powerful cause, helping WJL continue their fight against legal abuse and economic injustice."
