Geoff Grist has spent 21 years building his reputation across Mosman and Neutral Bay, opening his own franchise, acquiring a local rent roll, merging with a high-performing property management business and eventually selling it. By most measures, he had done it all.
So when he quietly reached out to a contact at Harcourts, even those closest to him were surprised.
"I was a bit restless," Geoff admits. "Sometimes you don't know exactly what you're looking for until you find it."
Andrew McCulloch, CEO of Harcourts NSW, said bringing someone with Geoff's experience into the network was a significant opportunity.
"Geoff has spent more than two decades building a reputation in one of Sydney's most competitive real estate markets," Mr McCulloch said.
"People with that depth of experience don't make a move like this lightly. We're delighted that Geoff has chosen Harcourts for the next chapter of his career, and we're looking forward to seeing what he can achieve."
What Geoff found was an environment that valued his experience from day one, backed by the systems, processes and people to support him.
"I was immediately made to feel that my experience was very important to them, and that was also very important to me," he said.
"Harcourts allowed me to start over, but with the confidence of knowing I'm supported at every stage by like-minded professionals who have my best interests at heart. I felt valued and knew I could make a difference.
"I've already hit the ground running with new opportunities."
The brand may be new, but the community is anything but. Geoff has owned four homes in Mosman and held both a business and an apartment in Neutral Bay.
When clients he sold for 20 years ago recently called him to find their next home, the moment crystallised exactly why he does what he does.
"Real estate is a people business. I love helping new and old connections achieve their property goals."
That same people-first philosophy extends well beyond property transactions.
Since 2004, Geoff has donated a Backpack Bed with every appraisal or sale he completes, amounting to hundreds of beds over two decades. When he later discovered that Harcourts has supported the same charity for years, the alignment felt like more than coincidence.
"I didn't know it at the time, but our values were already fully aligned. That's something I'm genuinely proud of."
For Geoff, the move to Harcourts isn't a reinvention. It's a new chapter, with the experience he's built over 21 years behind him and a network he says is already delivering exactly what he was looking for.
"I have very high expectations," Geoff said. "And Harcourts have delivered."
