Veteran Geelong Real Estate Agent to Tackle New York Marathon in Support of Barwon Health

Demonstrating exceptional commitment to community welfare, veteran real estate agent and Harcourts North Geelong Director, Joe Grgic, is set to push his physical limits by competing in the upcoming New York Marathon. His participation in the formidable 42-kilometre race aims to raise vital funds for Barwon Health, directly supporting the ongoing provision of essential local medical services.

Securing a place in the New York Marathon is a notoriously difficult challenge. With nearly 60,000 runners completing the race annually and less than three per cent of ballot applicants gaining entry, Grgic secured his position through a dedicated charity allocation. As a novice to marathon running, he is applying rigorous diligence to his preparation, navigating past sports injuries to build his endurance systematically.

"I usually run five to six kilometres three times a week, but I am now out to 16 and a half kilometres and continually growing on that distance," Grgic notes, referencing his regular training sessions along the Barwon River. "I have secured my spot. Now, I am just doing the training."

This significant physical endeavour serves a profound community purpose. Every cent donated to Grgic's marathon campaign goes directly to Barwon Health. Formed in 1998, Barwon Health stands as one of Australia’s largest and most comprehensive regional health services. It provides care across all stages of life, covering a full spectrum from primary and community services to aged care, rehabilitation, mental health, and emergency care. Operating primarily through University Hospital Geelong, the organisation delivers leadership and tertiary referral services across the Barwon South West region, ensuring everyone receives necessary care regardless of their financial status. The funds raised by Grgic will aid critical facilities such as the Andrew Love Cancer Centre and contribute to the development of the new Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
