I am not going to dress this up. It was hard. Really, really hard.

The year I was pregnant with Alastair, my business grew by 400%. And while that sounds like a headline worth celebrating, and it is, what sits behind that number is a woman who was struggling immensely. Carrying a baby, carrying a business, carrying more than most people around me could see.

I took one month off after he arrived. One month. And then I went back, not because I had to, but because of who I am. My values would not let me disappear. My commitment to my clients would not let me step away. Contribution is not something I can just switch off. It is woven into me. So I showed up, because showing up is what I do.

My partner did not fix anything or try to. He simply held the space for me. And sometimes, that is the most profound thing another person can do. It was the best for me.

Alastair is one and a half years old now. He is healthy. He is happy. He is loving and kind. And when I look at him, I feel proud, not just of him, but of the human I am. All of it. The strength and the struggle. The ambition and the vulnerability. The mother and the woman who refused to become less of herself.

That is the part nobody talks about enough. The becoming. Because motherhood does not diminish you. It reveals you. It shows you exactly what you are made of, in the moments you least expect it.

To the woman reading this who is in the thick of it right now, who is growing something at work while growing someone at home, who is exhausted in ways she cannot always explain, I see you. Not the version of you that holds it together. All of you.

You do not have to shrink to be a good mother. You do not have to choose between your ambition and your love. Both are allowed to be enormous.

This is my second Mother's Day. And what I know now, that I did not know then, is that the hardest seasons are not the ones that break you. They are the ones that quietly, profoundly, build you into her.

The woman you are. The woman you are still becoming.

Be proud of her. Every single version of her.
