Owning Her Story: How One Woman Turned Adversity Into Strength

Irina recently spoke with _Real Estate Today_ about her journey, one that began long before she ever picked up a set of keys or opened a front door.

From a New Country to a New Life

Her story began when she arrived in Australia just before high school, unable to speak a word of English. The culture shock was real. School was tough. Fitting in was tougher. But those early struggles built the resilience and empathy that would one day define her career. After finishing school, she landed a receptionist role in a local real estate office. _“I was terrified,”_ she laughs. _“Phones ringing, conversations I barely understood, I thought I’d last a week.”_ Her boss gave her a chance, and she never looked back. Within months, she was running property management and business development, thriving in an environment where honesty and connection mattered more than perfect grammar. _“Clients didn’t care about my accent. They cared that I listened, told the truth, and showed up.”_

The Woman Behind the Strength

Behind that professional calm was a personal journey marked by resilience.Marriage. Motherhood. A car accident that left her emotionally shaken. PTSD. Depression. Eating disorders. Divorce. Each chapter could have been the one that broke her, but instead, each became part of her rebuilding. _“I used to think setbacks meant failure. Now I know they’re part of growth. They strip you down, but they also make you real.”_ Today, as a single mum of four, Irina says she’s stronger than ever. _“You learn what you’re capable of when you don’t have a choice. And I learned I’m capable of a lot.”_

Finding Meaning in the Mess

That understanding has become her superpower in real estate. _“When interest rates rise and clients panic, I see the same patterns I saw in myself, denial, fear, resistance._ _Our job as property managers isn’t just numbers and notices; it’s helping people find acceptance so they can move forward.”_ She believes the best agents aren’t the loudest, they’re the ones who’ve lived enough life to understand people.

Showing Up, Imperfectly and Proudly

For years, Irina avoided cameras, events, and attention. _“I told myself I was too busy or too tired, but truthfully, I didn’t feel good enough.”_ Recently, she faced that fear head-on. She booked a photoshoot, her first in years. _“I still can’t look at the photos,”_ she admits with a smile. _“But I did it. That’s the point.”_ Now, after two and a half years of rebuilding her life, she says she’s no longer chasing control, she’s embracing it. _“I’m open. To opportunity. To connection. To whatever comes next.”_

Here’s to What’s Next

Irina doesn’t tell her story for sympathy. She tells it because it’s real, and because the industry needs more real. _“We all have stories behind the scenes.
