Two in Five Young Australians Feel Lonely — Frasers Property Steps Up to Close the Gap

Two out of five young Australians are struggling with loneliness — and Frasers Property Australia says the industry has a role to play in fixing it.
As Loneliness Awareness Week Australia kicks off (4–10 August), the property giant is doubling down on initiatives to tackle isolation, both in the communities it builds and within its own workplaces.
The campaign theme, Moments Matter, is a call to action for Australians to create small but meaningful moments of connection. Young people are encouraged to share their own stories using #MomentsMatter.
The push follows the release of A Call for Connection, a national report by Ending Loneliness Together revealing 43 per cent of Australians aged 15–25 feel lonely — a crisis echoed globally by World Health Organisation research showing one in six people experience loneliness.
Frasers Property Australia CEO, Cameron Leggatt, says it’s time to design for connection from the ground up.
“We need to take a long-term view and embed community building initiatives and programs within the master planning process, so the social outcomes are considered alongside and prioritised with the same importance as the desired physical and environmental outcomes,” he said.
The company has been a national partner of Ending Loneliness Together since 2022, taking a holistic approach through masterplanned community design, workplace wellbeing programs, and policies that prioritise human connection.
“Of course, this commitment must also be reflected in our own workplaces, through the policies and programs we provide for our people,” Leggatt added.
By weaving connection into the blueprint of every project, Frasers Property says the goal is clear: stronger communities, less loneliness, and a more connected Australia.
